On November 3, 2005, the Council unanimously approved the following Resolution in support of Freedom of International Scholarly Communication in the Americas
WHEREAS, the American Studies Association supports the cultural and intellectual exchange among all countries of the American hemisphere and endorses a trans-geographical concept of American culture,
WHEREAS, Cuban (and other) scholars were denied visas to attend the 2004 American Studies Association Annual Conference,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the ASA supports the free movement of scholars of the Americas.
