The American Studies Association welcomes departments, programs, and centers to apply for annual institutional memberships. Institutional members help ensure the continuity, development, and enhanced usefulness of a scholarly organization dedicated to broadening and intensifying the study of U.S. culture and history in a global context.

Benefits of Institutional Memberships

In addition to individual benefits of membership, institutional members may nominate up to 10 deserving students (either graduate or undergraduate) and/or contingent (non-tenure stream) faculty from their department or program for a free, one-year, online membership in the ASA. These students and contingent faculty will enjoy all the benefits of an individual ASA membership online, including the opportunity to submit a proposal to the annual meeting and online access to the current and past year's issues of American Quarterly. Membership will commence in January of the next calendar year (2024). If you have any questions, please email JHUP customer support at jrnlcirc@jh.edu and make sure "ASA" is in the subject line.

Institutional members receive special discounted rates on advertising, job or fellowship postings to the ASA website, and ads for jobs or fellowships in the ASA newsletter.

Institutional memberships are $170, payable annually in July. Proceeds from institutional memberships help the decennial survey of departments, programs, and centers as well as a new initiative to collect and disseminate resources for departments and programs under review or facing other challenges.

Please note: If your department or program is looking to purchase an institutional membership in order to support 10 students and contingent faculty who may want to submit proposals for the annual meeting, your application must be completed on or before January 1, in order to allow processing time for the February 1 proposal deadline.
