The Department of History, Literature, and the Arts at Bryant University invites applications for a two-year visiting Assistant Professor in the fields of African American Studies with expertise in Theater, Music, Performance Studies, Visual Studies, or Creative Writing. This position would support classes in our Literary and Cultural Studies major, our Arts and Creative Industries major, our Africana and Black Studies minor, and our Ethnic Studies concentration. This appointment, which begins in August 2024 and runs through July 2026 (with the option to renew for one year), offers a competitive salary with full benefits.
The Visiting Assistant Professor in African American Studies is responsible for teaching three courses per semester, sustaining an active and productive scholarly research agenda, and contributing to departmental growth and development. The successful candidate should be committed to teaching excellence, and will be expected to develop new courses, mentor students, and participate in service activities that include designing and leading new initiatives.
Interested candidates must have obtained a PhD by summer 2024 in African American Studies, African Diasporic Studies, American Studies, Music, Performance Studies, Theatre Arts, Visual Studies or any related interdisciplinary field. Successful candidates will have a solid teaching portfolio and evidence of a productive scholarly research agenda.
