Associate or Full Professor of American Studies
American Studies, Barnard College (New York, NY)
Deadline:
March 28, 2020
Post date: December 19, 2019

The Department of American Studies at Barnard College welcomes applications for a full-time tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level. We seek a senior colleague with an established record of visionary scholarship and engaged teaching who will amplify the department’s established commitment to interdisciplinary and critical inquiry into race, gender, class, sexuality, Indigeneity, political economy, imperialism and social movements in contemporary, historical, hemispheric and transnational contexts. Research area is open, although the department has special interests in expanding its conversations around Indigenous feminisms, Latinx studies, Black feminisms, queer of color theory, transnational migration and globalization.

Successful candidates will have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications that have demonstrable interdisciplinary reach.
They will have a portfolio of classes which engage issues of race, gender, class, sexuality, Indigeneity, political economy, imperialism and/or social movements. The specific disciplines in which they were trained and have taught are less important than a commitment to critical engagement with these issues and an approach to American Studies that acknowledges and responds to its contemporary, historical, hemispheric and transnational contexts.

We seek someone with a record of, or the potential for, developing programming, mentoring junior faculty and shepherding undergraduates through the process of working with archives and developing independent research projects.

Applications should include (1) a cover letter, (2) a diversity statement outlining the applicant’s commitment to building inclusive learning communities, (3) a curriculum vita, (4) a writing sample and (5) contact information for three academic references.
