1) An earned Ph.D. in Gender Studies, Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, American Studies or a relevant discipline in the Humanities or Social Sciences is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/20/2020).
2) Evidence of successful teaching at the University level
3) Evidence of scholarly expertise in Queer and/or Trans* of Color Studies
1) Evidence of research and teaching in at least one of the following areas: Black Studies or Asian/Asian American Studies
2) Evidence of experience with public humanities and research justice approaches to scholarship and teaching
3) Evidence of expertise in bridging curriculum and pedagogy to local communities and social justice organizations
The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach general education and core courses in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, including courses in Queer and/or Trans* of Color Studies, at the undergraduate and graduate levels; participate in program and curriculum development; and maintain a research profile that aligns with their area of expertise.

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program is located in the Liberal Studies Department at Cal State L.A. The WGSS program engages students in the interdisciplinary study of gender and sexuality as interwoven with race, ethnicity, colonization, class, nation, and ability. Our curriculum draws upon intersectional feminist and LGBTQ frameworks, with a strong basis in concepts of research that seek to collaborate with marginalized communities to identify innovative solutions to pressing social justice issues that involve these communities. The program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree, an undergraduate minor, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in WGSS.
