The Department of Women's Studies at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  We seek to strengthen our offerings in the following area:

Intersectional Feminist Approaches to Gender and Sexuality in US History

We invite applications from scholars with a teaching and research concentration in historical analysis of gender and sexuality in the US with a preferred focus on the experiences of LGBTQ+ people and communities.  Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to: major turning points in US intersectional women’s/feminist history, queer of color critique, queer theory, transgender studies, immigration, transborder studies, and Native American/indigenous studies.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies or a related field.  A minimum of a graduate concentration in Women’s/Gender/Sexuality/Feminist Studies, or a significant track record of research and teaching in Women’s/Gender/Sexuality/Feminist Studies, is required.  We also require the following:

  • The ability to teach, support, and develop the Women’s Studies curriculum in US history

  • A commitment to contributing to the LGBTQ+ Studies major and minor, and other related initiatives at a top-rated LGBTQ-friendly institution

  • A demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching of a very diverse student population, including theoretical, applied and activist perspectives

  • A commitment to strengthen an already successful M.A. program in Women’s Studies

  • A strong record or promise of scholarly accomplishments appropriate to level of appointment

  • Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues and community to develop productive networks for education and research

  • Commitment to leadership, institution-building and curriculum development
