Friends of the Longfellow House Research Fellowship

The fellowship consists of one $1,200 stipend to help defray the living or travel expenses of researchers as they work in the Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters NHS archives. 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

Preference will be given to applicants whose research plan makes maximum use of the Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters NHS archives and collections.

WHO SHOULD APPLY 

Students, academics, and professionals engaged in history, literature, art history, architecture, American studies, International studies, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Prospective applicants are strongly urged to contact the Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters NHS archivist, Kate Hanson Plass at LONG_archives@nps.gov to discuss the fit between their proposed projects and the materials available in the collection.

Prior to completing the online application, have the following information ready to enter or upload (in pdf format): 

  1. Applicant’s contact information: Name, mailing address, phone number, email address.

  2. Project information: Proposed project title, topic, and anticipated dates of research visit.

  3. Project description in pdf format (suggested 1,000 word limit), containing the following:

    1. Description of the proposed research project, including goals, objectives, methodology, and final product;

    2. Archival material anticipated for use;

    3. Explanation of how this project advances the applicant’s educational, personal, and/or professional goals. 

  1. Curriculum vitae or résumé (in pdf format).

  2. Professional reference: that person’s name, mailing address, phone number, email address, and relationship to the applicant.
