In honor of cultural theorist and independent feminist scholar Gloria E. Anzaldúa, who died unexpectedly and prematurely in May 2004 of complications related to diabetes, the ASA National Council join the ASA Women’s Committee to invite you to contribute to an endowment in support of the Gloria E. Anzaldúa Award for Independent Scholars.
Designed to reflect Anzaldúa’s status as an independent scholar and her groundbreaking contributions to women-of-color studies and queer theory, the Gloria E. Anzaldúa Award will be awarded annually to an independent scholar who has made transformative feminist contributions to issues of gender, ‘race,’ and sexuality in the field of American Studies. The award will consist of a lifetime membership in the American Studies Association.
