Prizes and Grants

ASA Awards and Prizes

The Annual Awards Program of the American Studies Association includes the Constance Rourke Prize for the best article in American Quarterly, the Wise-Susman Prize for the best student paper at the convention, the Yasuo Sakakibara Prize for the best paper presented by an international scholar at the meeting, the Ralph Henry Gabriel Prize for the best dissertation in American Studies, the Lora Romero First Book Publication Prize, the John Hope Franklin Best Book Publication Prize, the Mary C.Turpie Prize for outstanding teaching, advising, and program development in American Studies, and the Carl Bode- Norman Holmes Pearson Prize for outstanding contributions to American Studies.


Committee Awards and Prizes

The ASA Committee on Ethnic Studies awards the Comparative Ethnic Studies Prize each year for the best paper to be presented at the annual meeting that highlights from a global or comparative perspective the power of race/ethnicity to shape the lives of diverse groups of people. The ASA Women's Committee awards The Gloria E. Anzaldúa Award for Independent Scholars and Contingent Faculty periodically to an independent scholar and/or contingent faculty member who demonstrates an affinity with Anzaldúa's oeuvre, vision, or political commitments and who addresses the connections among some or all of the following categories: race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, and dis/ability.


Community Partnership Grants

The American Studies Association is pleased to invite individual and institutional members of the association to apply to the ASA Community Partnership Program for grants to support collaborative interdisciplinary community projects utilizing American Studies pedagogy, curriculum, research, and other resources.


Regional Chapter Grants

The American Studies Association is pleased to invite regional chapters of the Association to apply to the ASA for grants to support the development of conferences and other projects at the regional level.
