Opportunities and Announcements Submission Guidelines

All announcements (excluding employment opportunities) must conform to the following guidelines, similar to those followed in the Guide to American Studies Resources. The ASA staff reserves the right to edit announcements to the format described below.

Announcements must be no longer than 7 lines of text in MS Word format (standard 12 point font) or less than 100 words.

Announcements should provide only essential information and a brief description (2-3 lines).

Announcements following these guidelines will be run free of charge in the print and online versions of the ASA Newsletter. Regular advertising rates of $100.00 (print, text ad) and $50.00 (online only) will apply if a longer announcement is desired. Go to ”Advertising in the Newsletter” for details.

All announcements will be formatted according to these guidelines unless otherwise directed.

Suggested format for fellowship / prize announcements

Institution; Name of Fellowship; Brief Description, 2-3 lines (amount, qualifications, etc); Deadline; Contact Information.

Example:

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences invites post-doctoral scholars and junior faculty to apply for research fellowships for the 2005-2006 year. Fellowships are offered in the ares of Humanities and Culture; Science and Global Security; Social Policy and American Institutions; and Education. Stipends for post-doctoral fellows are $35,000 for an academic year; junior faculty are awarded up to $50,000 (not to exceed one-half of current salary). Example:

May 30, 2006. The Journal of the American Studies Association of Texas (JASAT) is a peer-reviewed journal published by the American Studies Association of Texas. JSAT welcomes manuscripts of 15-25 pages on various aspects of American culture - history, literature, popular culture, critical theory, technology, race and ethnicity, and the arts - preferably with an emphasis on Texas, the South or Southwest. The deadline for Vol. 37 (2006) is May 30, 2006.
