Yap, Gloria. "USIA Periodicals: Instruments of American Culture Diffusion in the Philippines," Bowling Green State University, December 1985. (17, 11)
This dissertation analyzes the content of United States Information Agency (USIA) publications responsible for the dissemination of American culture to foreign audiences between 1953 and 1983. The historical and cultural experiences of the Philippines demonstrate the influence of the manifest content of these periodicals in the formation of modern Filipino culture. This study argues that USIA publications are hegemonic in intent and content; they have become legitimate instruments of the diffusion of American culture through the cultivation of cultural modernism and the wide support of powerful social classes.
