Resources: Abstracts of American Studies Dissertations

De Ste Croix, James B. "The Republic of Talk Radio," American Studies, University of Hawaii, Manoa, December 1998.

This dissertation examines the conservative talk radio phenomenon that developed during the first half of the 1990s by way of its premier spokesperson, Rush Limbaugh. By focusing on the ideas and traditions which made up this radio-media development, this work presents an intellectual history of an electronic force that proved to have enormous impact on the American electorate and public during that period. Moving from the specific to the general, this study makes the case that more was at work in the development of the Radio Right than partisan bickering and name-calling.
