Carr, Norma. "The Puerto Ricans in Hawaii: 1900-1958," University of Hawaii, Manoa, December 1989.
The Puerto Rican migration to Hawaii in 1900-1901 was the first organized transfer of laborers between two possessions newly acquired by the United States. This work examines and describes the experience of the immigrants during Hawaii’s territorial period. It identifies and discusses the impact of economics, government, and ethnicity on the Puerto Rican laborers. Primary sources, mainly newspapers and interviews, provide information and insights into Puerto Ricans’ own perspectives on their experiences in Hawaii. The author has added hundreds of times to the bibliography on the subject.
