Kuwahara, Yasue. "The Promised Land: Images of America in Rock," Bowling Green State University, December 1987. Advisor: Michael T. Marsden (18, 2, 14)
This study analyzes the myth of the Promised Land in the popular consciousness through the examination of images of America in rock n’ roll songs in order to show how postwar generations of Americans have seen their country during and after the 1960s. The study finds that images of America have changed along with social changes, that, in spite of unstable social conditions, the myth has continued to shape the view of America as a promised land in the popular consciousness, and that rock n’ roll has become an important mass medium in postwar America.
