Daly, Janet R. "The Changing Image of the City: Planning for Downtown Omaha, 1945-1973," University of Pittsburgh, March 1987.
The thesis examines the post-World War II city planning and boosting process in Omaha, Nebraska, in the context of the social, economic and demographic changes. As Omaha changed from a commercial-industrial city to a regional service center, local planners and boosters only gradually recognized and understood the transformations underway. Once they did, they reshaped their image of the city and shifted their planning and boosting strategies from an emphasis on infrastructure improvements to an emphasis on ambience and amenities. The primary sources included national planning journals, local planning documents and local business publications.
