Watson, Justin. "Restoration, Recognition, and the Christian Coalition," Department of Religion, Florida State University, August 1996.
This work is a balanced examination of the purposes of the Christian Coalition, Pat Robertson’s controversial political organization. Based on a careful study of primary materials, the author finds that its leaders call for both the restoration of America as a Christian nation and for the recognition of the rights and interests of evangelicals, a minority victimized by secular elites. The Christian Coalition thus rejects and appeals to the pluralistic ethos of contemporary America. How the Christian Coalition deals with this basic contradiction may determine its future and its role in American politics.
