Benoit, John F. "Reflections of Vietnam Veterans," University of Pennsylvania, December 1986.

This paper examines contemporary concerns, dilemmas, and insights of Vietnam veterans through four encounters with particular veterans in a small town in western Massachusetts. Vietnam veterans risk what they would gain in their attempt as individuals to come to terms with their war experience in its relation to who they are now, that is, as a reflection of life composed of fearful consequences, assumed responsibilities, a fledgling humanity, and limited powers. Alternating between narrative and analysis, the text proceeds from events to explications, from renderings to interpretation, all the while guided and conditioned by an ethnographic approach.
