Morris, Gwenyth Elsie. "Gifted Woman Light Around You: Ojibwa Women and Their Stories," American Studies Program, University of Minnesota, December 1992. Advisor: John Howe (American Indian Studies, 18, 6)
This dissertation studies the beliefs and behavior of the Minnesota Ojibwa people that may have promoted helath from the mid-nineteenth century to the early 1980s. The term “health” is defined in the dissertation, resonant with the definition used by The World Health Organization, as a state of physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being, not just the absence of disease. Documentary sources from a wide range of disciplines were used. The core of the work is the life stories of nine Ojibwa women who worked in health care in Minnesota in 1986. Data from the past and present provide the context of their lives.
