Fields, Sarah K. "Female Gladiators: Gender, Law, and Contact Sport in America," American Studies, University of Iowa, December 2000.
This dissertation provides a close reading of the published legal decisions in which school-age girls attempt to gain access to contact sports. It establishes that Title IX provided the social catalyst for change, but that the Equal Protection clause was the actual force responsible for changing the gender of contact sport.
