Ochoa, Marķa. "Creative Collectives: A Study of Chicana Artistic Expressiveness," History of Consciousness, University of California, Los Angeles, September 1996.
This oral art history examines two groups of contemporary Northern California Chicana visual artists—Mujeres Muralistas and Co-Madres Artistas. It takes for its study the lives of the subject artists, as well as the constitutive elements of the art including the influences of cooperative art work. The narrative is developed through a weaving of the artists’ oral histories and the author’s iconographical analyses. Its qualitative social methodology is based on Chicana/o and third world feminist oral history approaches. The iconographical study is grounded in Chicana/o, mainstream United States and British based art historiographical approaches.
