Gray, Chris Hables. "Computers as Weapons and Metaphors: The U.S. Military 1940-1990 and Postmodern War," University of California, Los Angeles, June 1991. Advisor: Donna Haraway (20, 2, 11)
This is an analysis of the growing interdependence of technoscience, especially computing, and the military, which is the central relationship of postmodern war. The commitment of the U.S. military to computing is considered both in terms of the discourse of war dating back to the classic texts and through a more detailed examination of U.S. military policy in this century. There is a special emphasis on the history of military computing, strategic bombing, military planning, and futurology since 1940, the Vietnam War, and the War for Kuwait.
