Thursby, Jacqueline S. "Basque Women of the American West," American Culture Studies Program, Bowling Green State University, May 1994.
Many contemporary American Basque women living in the American West have reflexively synthesized the folkways, mores, and ethos of their ancient Basque heritage with North American culture. American Basques have mainstreamed through hard work, education, and community involvement, and they have demonstrated how an immigrant group can be American-identified but still maintain its original ethnic flavor. Sharing their celebrations with other groups, they demonstrate a uniting rather than disuniting of pluralities in the United States. Evidence for the argument was supported by archival research and ethnographic methodology, both sociological and folkloristic.
