Tobol, Amy Ruth. "Badge of Honor: The Law Students Civil Rights Research Council," American Studies, State University of New York, September 1999.
The Law Students Civil Rights Research Council (LSCRRC) was incorporated in 1964 by law students committed to assisting the civil rights movement. The network of LSCRRC interns and law school chapters initiated a wide range of activities in support of the civil rights and other social movements from 1964 through 1987. Using oral histories, this dissertation presents a historical narrative of the evolution of LSCRRC and examines LSCRRC’s influence on the legal profession and legal education; LSCRRC’s relationship with the civil rights movement and a separate law student movement; and LSCRRC participants’ experience at the intersection of activist activity and professional education. Secondly, this study examines the tensions inherent in using oral history as the method for collecting, analyzing and documenting organizational and life histories.
