Hunt, Imelda. "An Oral History of Art Tatum During His Years in Toledo, Ohio, 1909-1932," American Culture Program, Bowling Green State University, August 1995.

This study documents the life of Art Tatum from 1909 until 1932, using oral sources. Many oral sources collected in this volume are from people who had firsthand contact with Tatum, but some are relating stories told to them by their parents or other sources. The value of this research is to have in one place a compiled documentation of what Tatum’s life was like in Toledo, Ohio, where he lived from birth in 1909 until leaving permanently in 1932 for New York, where he was recognized in the musical world for his piano-playing genius.
