Smith, Jennifer B. "An International History of the Black Panther Party," American Studies Department, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, June 1997.

The scholarly literature has failed to sufficiently examine the response of African Americans to the new post-industrial society which evolved in the 1960s and 1970s. My dissertation seeks to remedy this problem by exploring the Black Panther Party’s international history. My work begins by exploring the context which gave rise to the Panthers, and the Party’s national history to gather clues about the Party’s international history. Next the thesis examines many of the major international history. Next the thesis examines many of the major international events of the Panther’s history. Lastly, the work examines and analyzes in-depth a series of contacts between the Party and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
