This study charts the US public debate on the Palestinian question between October, 1973 and December 1988 among scholars, journalists, and lobbyists. It also shows how the discussions reached Congress, and presents a short anallysis of public opinion as captured in polling results. Debating trends are placed within the context of regional developments and American policy. The research was based on think tank publications and articles in six prominent quarterlies and monthlies; editorials and op-ed articles published in three leading newspapers; newsletters of pro-Israeli and Arab-American lobbies; Congressional hearings; and various opinion polls.
