The Students’ Committee of the American Studies Association is comprised of
no less than six and no more than ten students enrolled in degree-granting
programs. Members serve two year, non-renewable, staggered terms. The
committee is led by two co-chairs who also serve two-year, non-renewable,
staggered terms.
The Students’ Committee (SC) is comprised of students—undergraduate and
graduate—from American studies and related fields who represent student
interests, needs, and ambitions to the American Studies Association Council
and membership at large. We work to develop a network of American studies
students, to offer programming that addresses student concerns and academic
interests, and to promote student access to the annual meeting. In addition,
the SC fosters relationships between students and other ASA members by
working closely with other committees and caucuses, co-sponsoring events
with them. The Committee is also responsible for raising the funds to
support its work. We invite students in American studies and related fields
to share their ideas, interests, and concerns with us at the annual meeting
and year-round through our website.
The Students’ Committee and Executive Committee invite self-nominations from
American Studies Association members. Applicants must submit a brief
statement describing their qualifications, experience, and their interests
in the committee, along with a complete resume. Application materials are
due on or before April 1.
If you would like to apply, please attach your statement and resume as Word
documents to a single email and send it to asastaff@theasa.net
Alternatively, you may mail your materials to the Executive Committee,
American Studies Association, 1120 19th Street NW, Suite 301, Washington
D.C. 20036.
