We have proceeded with a proposal to the NZ-US Educational Foundation for an international conference to take place in New Zealand in January/February 2001, the proposal is in draft stage as I write this report and is about to be submitted to Fulbright.

Rather than recapitulating that summary and detail, I will focus here on a concise presentation of how the IC has engaged and been engaged by the International Initiative, how the committee's makeup and mission have changed, what we are doing now, and what can be expected in the coming year.

In line with the function of the International Committee, various efforts have been undertaken to promote the cooperation of international scholars in joint projects and exchange programs.

In accordance with the commission of the International Committee, initial steps have been taken to establish cooperation among the affiliated Associations of the European Association for American Studies, namely the Hellenic American Studies Association, Belarusan American Studies Association, besides the Korean American Studies Association together with Turkish American Studies Association to organize joint conferences especially involving Graduate Students to discuss the future of American Studies in these countries and inviting American specialists in the field among ASA membership to contribute their insiders view.

The International Committee is delighted with the election of Mike Frisch, former ASA President 2000-2001, as the incoming Chair and is confident that he will contribute immensely to the pioneering efforts of the ASA Officers to globalize American Studies with his expertise and inexhaustible energy.
