Mauricio Espinoza-Quesada has won the 2008 Mid-America American Studies Association Katzman-Yetman Prize for his paper entitled “Dying to be Here(oes): A Semiotic Analysis of the Construction of Latino Heroism Discourses in Post-911 Armed Conflicts and Border Security Rhetoric in the United States.”
University of British Columbia historian Paige Raibmon has won the 2007 Mid-America American Studies Association Stone-Suderman Prize for her article entitled “‘Handicapped by Distance and Transportation’: Indigenous Relocation, Modernity, and Time-Space Expansion.”
