CHASA 2011 Graduate Student Essay award winners

CHASA is pleased to announce the winners of the
2011 Graduate Student Essay award.
This year’s winner, receiving a prize of $200, is
Matthew Pembleton (American University) for his essay, “Eye of the Beholder:
Addiction and Subversion in the Views of the Bureau of Narcotics.”
Second prize of $75 was awarded to Naomi Lesley (George Washington
University) for her paper, “No Teacher Left Behind: Teachers’ Manuals and
the Possibility of Disidentification.”
Congratulations to both Matthew and Naomi, and many thanks to everyone who
submitted their work for consideration.

New American Spaces: CFP Chesapeake American Studies Association Annual Conference 2010

The 2010 meeting of the Chesapeake area chapter of the American Studies Association (CHASA) will be hosted by the American Studies Program at Georgetown University, Washington, DC, March 26-27, 2010.  The event is being held in conjunction with Georgetown’s annual Richardson Lecture in American Studies. Deadline for submitting proposals: January 11, 2010.
