Anyone else presenting on food related issues, please forward the panel information to me so it can be shared with all members of the caucus and the larger food studies community. 

Also, both a Food Studies Caucus Reception and business meeting are in the process of being organized by a preliminary Food Studies Caucus administrative group. More details to come soon.

Two events need to be organized:

1. A First annual Food Studies Caucus business/planning meeting, which will be held each year at the ASA Conference.  At this meeting we will need to plan all of the events/goals for the caucus for the coming year.

2. Food Studies Caucus Annual Reception/networking event.  At such an event scholars of food will be able to meet other scholars doing similar work. I envision this being a more low key event, with perhaps some light food and an open/cash bar. (If we need to raise funding for such an event we could possibly require preregistration and charge a small fee per person, say $10 to cover the cost of food).

These two events could possibly be combined and have a planning meeting and networking event at the same time.  I was thinking the first or second day of the conference.  Also, the ASA informed me that they have the ability to set space aside for such events at the Caribe Hilton and may even have some limited funding for such events (depending on several factors).

If anyone is willing to aid in the organization of these two events please contact me via email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)), post your ideas on this blog or on the ASA Food Studies Caucus Google Discussion Page.  Even if you cannot attend the conference you could still help, and any assistance anyone willing to offer would be greatly appreciated. 

I think the next step would be to brainstorm ideas via email for these events (or others) and begin to delineate tasks to anyone who is interested in helping.
