Affirmative Action Resolution

September 2000

In light of the continuing assault on affirmative action, the ASA Task Force on Relations with Ethnic Studies Departments, Programs, Faculty, and Students commends the commitment of American Studies Association leadership to social justice as a defining feature of the organization’s heritage and its future. In particular, 1) we support the Association’s official position promoting an affirmative action agenda by continuing the boycott of states, cities, and meeting sites, which do not support equal opportunity and affirmative action; and 2) we encourage further examination of other specific ways in which students of color are being increasingly denied access to higher education.
